PIR boards, short for polyisocyanurate foam boards, are an improved and upgraded insulation material based on polyurethane (PU). By adjusting the ratio of isocyanate to polyols and adding highly efficient flame retardants, a more stable triazine ring structure is formed, significantly improving heat resistance and flame retardancy-typically reaching the B1 flame-retardant standard, self-extinguishing upon removal of the flame, with low smoke density, and not easily dripping at high temperatures. Compared to traditional XPS extruded polystyrene boards, PIR has a lower thermal conductivity (typically ≤0.022W/(m·K)) at the same thickness, higher insulation efficiency, and is more suitable for scenarios with stringent requirements for both fire resistance and energy efficiency.

 

When choosing insulation for my home's underfloor heating system, I compared several options and finally chose this blue PIR board. After laying it, it felt firm and didn't collapse underfoot, the cuts were clean and didn't crumble, and it held up steadily against walls, underfloor heating pipes, and even as a base for cold storage. What's most reassuring is that the blue hue isn't dye; it's a mark formed by the even dispersion of the flame retardant. When a small corner is burned, it only emits white smoke and stops burning as soon as the smoke curls up. When used in the interior insulation of old building exterior walls, it prevents condensation around windows in winter and avoids stuffiness on the top floor in summer. After being installed in a small medical cold storage compartment, temperature fluctuations are significantly reduced, and the compressor starts and stops much more gently.
